Cats are known to be the world's greatest hunters and are renowned for their resiliency, but every once in awhile, they can beat the odds on a truly grand scale. According to the New York Daily News, a cargo ship traveling from Shanghai, China, to Los Angeles, California, recently arrived in the port and dropped off its shipping containers. When one of the bins was delivered to a business in Compton later in the week, the recipients were shocked to find a small kitten trapped inside. All told, the feline had taken a trip that normally takes 21 days and covers a staggering 6,500 miles across the Pacific Ocean.
According to the Daily Mail, the feline was obviously malnourished and animal control was called to see if they could save the kitten's life. After being taken to the Carson Animal Care Centre, the feline's demeanor started to improve and he began to eat and become responsive again. The animal welfare workers decided to name the lucky cat "Ni Hao," which means "Hello" in Mandarin.
After being stuck in the container without food or water for nearly three weeks, Ni Hao's recovery has been nothing short of a miracle. Because the cat was brought from China, Ni Hao will be forced to stay in quarantine for 60 days, and is still too young to receive vaccinations. Slowly but surely, Ni Hao has begun to trust the animal welfare workers and is now starting to play and scramble around like a healthy kitten. The crafty cat's story has certainly become very popular in Los Angeles, so when the quarantine is up, the lucky feline won't be without a home for too long.
"We will continue to provide the best of care for Ni Hao, eventually looking for a suitable foster home then finding a permanent family to call his own," Marcia Mayeda, director of the county department of animal care and control, told the Daily News Los Angeles.
Amazing felines like Ni Hao are simply another shining example of how remarkable felines can be and how they can inspire those around them.
