Bideawee (pronounced Bye-Dah-Wee), Scottish for "Stay Awhile," was originally given the name Bide-A-Wee Home Association, Inc. when we were founded in 1903 by Flora D'Auby Jenkins Kibbe.
Often, out of feelings of affection, long, complicated names are shortened. Margaret becomes Maggie or Meg. Edward becomes Eddie or Ed. Thus, over the past 100 years or so, Bide-A-Wee Home Association, Inc. has become, with great affection, Bideawee.
Our original name is still used on important formal documents, such as nonprofit status listings, tax filings, deeds, trusts and other legal documents. So if you can't find the information you are looking for, try our original name - and don't forget the hyphens!

The bright magenta is a symbol of our excitement, passion and love for animals and the warm, bold chocolate represents the reliability, endurance, stability, simplicity, and comfort which we feel are all the attributes of loving relationships with companion animals - and of Bideawee!
We are one of the oldest animal welfare organizations in the country and have cared for more than one million animals over the past century. To stem the tide of pet overpopulation and abuse, more is needed than adoption, rescue, and spay/neuter. We must educate people of all ages about responsible pet ownership.
Our new look symbolizes the array of services that make us the compassionate place to come for all your pet-related needs. This includes humane education and pet literacy programs for elementary school children to pet therapy for the elderly. Teaching people of all ages about what wonderful companions dogs and cats can be is the key to our mission. Our services for pets start at puppy and kitty kindergarten classes and extend to pet bereavement services and compassionate burial services for your beloved pets. We want to create a world where no dog or cat will ever be mistreated or abandoned again - because people will value these animals as true members of their families and the community.
Bideawee is dedicated to this mission and invites anyone who feels the same way to join our community. Everything we do is truly "for the love of pets."
