Animal traps clanged shut. People ran from room to room yelling to each other. Hissing and crying, the tiny kittens scattered and hid. Chaos reigned.

That was the scene at a Nassau County house in mid-June. The home's owner had diminished mental capacity preventing him from adequately caring for more than 30 cats and kittens living in the house with him. The house was filled with trash of all sorts. The stench from the cat urine and feces left throughout the house was overwhelming. People said it could be smelled from the street. The neighbors were beside themselves.

On June 14 the Nassau County SPCA entered the house and began the process of removing the cats. The SPCA scrambled to find temporary shelter for the many felines, calling on foster parents, shelters and other resources. Many of the kitties were suffering from intestinal problems and eye infections. Many showed signs of malnutrition and neglect.

Gimme Shelter
Bideawee responded to the SPCA pleas immediately and took custody of nine kittens and four adult cats rescued from the house. These babies hadn't been named, so the staff dubbed a few as , Brianna, Jeter, Mantle, Mari, Melanie, Melky, Torre and Fidget .

All nine of these kittens require medical care and socialization before they can be adopted. They need a full series of immunizations. They will have ID microchips implanted. And they must double their body weight to two pounds or more before they can have surgery to be spayed or neutered. Only then can they be put up for adoption.

It's truly a mission of mercy.

But it all costs money. And, the only source Bideawee has to pay for this extra care is you. These cats and kittens deserve a new start in life. We are confident that they will make excellent additions in a new family. But we have to get them ready. Please help us provide the needed medical and social assistance these cats and kittens so desperately require.

How You Can Help
Bideawee relies on your commitment to help these poor babies. A full 100 percent of our funding comes from individual donations. We don't receive local, state or federal assistance. We've saved countless pets for more than 106 years, through wars, recessions and even the Great Depression. Today we face an equally severe crisis. While we understand that people are in financial straights, we also see every day how this crisis is forcing hundreds if not thousands of pets onto the streets, into overcrowded shelters, and in some cases even worse.

Each and every donation makes a difference. Help us rescue these and other pets today.

Thanks to our wonderful supporters, we are committed to providing these cats and kittens with a new adoptive home. Bideawee can save these pets and others only if you help. Please help us save Brianna, Jeter, Mantle, Mari, Melanie, Melky, Torre and Fidget, as well as others.
