Oliver couldn't have led a more miserable existence than the one he'd been in. Before he came to Bideawee, he was trapped in a puppy mill house of horrors in Tennessee, one in which he and several other innocent dogs were forced to produce puppies for ruthless breeders who cared nothing about the dogs' health or safety. It was only after a police raid on the mill and seizure of the dogs that Oliver finally escaped.

The little boy was far from safe, however. Oliver and many of the other dogs went to a municipal shelter that had high euthanasia rate. Although Oliver was a Dachshund, he was in such poor health that no adopter would want to take a risk on him. This pitiful pup had jumped from the frying pan into the fire, and time was quickly running out for such a sweet-faced dog whose mournful eyes seemed to cry out for help.

Oliver's luck finally got better when Bideawee learned about him and agreed to give him shelter. Bideawee could help Oliver escape not only the risk of being killed; we could help him become a healthier, and therefore adoptable, dog.

Since bringing Oliver into our shelter, we've discovered just how badly he was neglected. Little Oliver has rotting teeth and a fractured jaw that our veterinarian staff have worked to repair. His neglect also resulted in a heartworm infection, which we are also currently treating. Because Oliver had lived under such stressful and terrifying conditions, our adoption staff arranged for him to live in a foster home, where he is learning to enjoy the company of someone who gives him plenty of affection and love, as well as time to get used to being a "normal" dachshund.

What we are doing for this new addition to our haven is possible because we have the support of people like you, people who believe that every dog, cat, puppy, and kitten deserves a better life and another chance to live it. Thanks to you, Oliver is getting both the medical and social attention he needs, which will turn those sad brown eyes into smiling ones. Please help us continue our efforts to help Oliver, and all the other abused and neglected pets like him, so they can know what it means to be happy and loved.
