Sometimes people look but do not see... They touch but do not feel... They hear but do not understand. That was Rocky's dilemma. His parents only saw a useless ugly dog that was going to cost them money. They wanted him dead.
Bideawee looked and saw hope in Rocky's eyes and beauty in his heart. Just like EVERY PET that comes through our shelter doors, Rocky is worthy of love, medical attention and a forever home... no matter what they look like on the outside.
Rocky, a 7 year old Toy Poodle, was abandoned at a municipal shelter where he came within a hair's breadth of being euthanized. His parents didn't care what a sweetie Rocky was on the inside. They didn't care that he still has years left to live a full life of chasing balls and curling up on the couch with his human. He no longer served their purpose and his loving, sweet doggie kisses no longer meant anything to them. Rocky just didn't look good to them anymore, just wasn't what they wanted to deal with and so - they abandoned him.
Fortunately for Rocky, Bideawee stepped in and rescued him from Death Row, giving him, as we have so many others before him, a Second Start at life in the expert hands of the Veterinary and Adoption staff.
As soon as Rocky arrived at our Manhattan shelter; matted, balding, over-weight and covered in warty growths, he was whisked down to the veterinary suite to be cleaned up and groomed and to have an immediate full work-up of tests so that we could find out how to help this frightened, funny-looking pup.
And he was so very frightened and shy. But who could blame him after all he'd just been through?
It was quickly understood that not only did Rocky have Alopecia, but that he was obese and unfortunately has a condition known as hypothyroidism. Rocky will have to be on medication for the rest of his life to treat this illness. But Rocky will have a life to live! And with help from you and from the caring staff at Bideawee, it will be a healthy, happy life with hopes of a forever, loving home! He may even grow his hair back.
Rocky is starting to heal. He is already playing ball, trusting and cuddling with the staff now that he knows he's not going to be abandoned again.
Please won't you help us care for Rocky's costly medical treatment so that he can get better quickly and go to his forever home? Won't you help others like Rocky who will be saved from certain death and will be cared for and loved when others had no use for them?
Bideawee is a no-kill shelter and never euthanizes an animal unless it is incurable ill or suffering.
