ADOPTION CENTER VOLUNTEER, Manhattan
SUZI ANDERS

NYC Adoption Center Volunteer, Suzi Anders, has always been passionate about "The Cats." Suzi, a retired Special Education teacher, developed an affinity for felines starting in childhood when she cared for the feral cats in her neighborhood.

Suzi came to Bideawee after the loss of her three elderly cats. She vowed never to adopt another and decided instead to turn her grief into a positive by donating her time to Bideawee's shelter cats.

"The Bideawee environment is one of love, dedication, compassion and respect for all the cats and dogs throughout the entire life cycle and into the final goodbye! This includes the special needs animals as well. Every single staff member I have seen generates this attitude towards the animals. The blending and bonding of dogs, cats and people at Bideawee is heaven and I am so glad to be part of it!"

Suzi finds great joy in cleaning the kennels.

"Making a comfortable and pretty place for the kits is another part about volunteering that I really enjoy! So many have had such horrible circumstances before coming to Bideawee, they deserve to have comfort, food and kindness."

During her multi-hour weekly volunteer shift Suzi also gives homemade cat toys to each and every one of Bideawee's feline guests. Her favorite moments are sitting on the floor of the cat resorts and making toys with all the cats laying around her, purring, poking, watching and "helping."

When Suzi is not volunteering at Bideawee, she gives her time at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, doing arts and crafts with sick children. She is also currently fostering a a mom and five kittens in her living room!
