Manhattan Adoption Center Volunteer
MAY MANCUSO
May Mancuso started at Bideawee as an administrative volunteer in July 2008. Along with other teen volunteers, May filed, collated, and made copies. By summer's end, May knew she wanted to get more involved, so she talked her mom, Karla, into volunteering with her as a dog socializer. Lately, they have been spending much of their time at Bideawee socializing a lively litter of Akita puppies.
May's devotion to dogs started when she was just three years old. It was then that Woolfie, a toy poodle, took up residence with her family. Woolfie, she says, may be small in stature but has a big heart that gave her the strength and courage to become the person she is today.
May also shares her home with her best friend, O'Brien (known as "OB") a 5 year-old lab retriever mix given to her by Canine Companions for Independence, an organization that trains dogs to be of service to people with disabilities.
May enjoys the theater and plans to be a writer someday.
