Adoption: How it works

Bideawee is currently processing adoptions by appointment only, and you must be 18 years or older to adopt.

Thank you for your interest in adopting one of our cats or dogs, please submit an online adoption application for the pet you are interested in.

Please note that we will not be responding to general applications; you must submit an application for a specific cat or dog in order to be considered.

  • Our adoption team will be reviewing applications for both our NYC and Long Island locations based on the order in which they were received, and will be contacting applicants to request a copy of their pet policy prior to scheduling phone and/or Zoom appointments. (Please make sure to check your emails after submitting an application.)
  • Once an appointment is completed and it appears to be a good match, the staff will schedule an in-person appointment (masks and social distancing will be required) with the adopters to meet the pet and take them home.

We are asking that interested adopters not come by either of our shelters in person as we are only processing adoptions via appointment at this time.

Please note that because of the quantity of applications we receive for certain animals (particularly puppies and kittens), we may be unable to respond to each applicant. If you have applied for a cat or dog and see that they are no longer available on the website, you can assume they have been adopted, and we strongly encourage you to apply for another.

Thank you for your cooperation during this time, and we look forward to introducing you to your new best friend!

Please note that you must be 18 years or older to adopt.

What to Bring

  • All other adult dogs – $185
