Darcy

Jordan and I grew up with dogs and finally felt ready to get our own, but we really wanted to meet some dogs in person and get to know their personalities before we committed. The day we met Darcy, she was immediately so sweet. She wanted to play with all the toys and laid in Jordan’s lap wagging her tail. We wanted to think about it overnight, but the next day, a water pipe burst at Bideawee. A foster took Darcy in for two nights and I followed her story on Instagram, watching her confirm how sweet and loving Darcy was.

The day Bideawee reopened, I made sure I was there before the doors opened, so Darcy would definitely be ours. Then we started the months-long process of getting to know each other. We learned the things that scared Darcy (garbage trucks, loud noises, and wind) and she learned that she was now a permanent member of our family. We worked with a trainer to learn new techniques to help her manage her new life and put her in an agility class to help her build confidence.

It has been such an incredible journey in resilience for all of us. Darcy learned how to trust us and recover from scary moments, and we learned how to be patient and work as a team. She’s so funny and loving, she just needed time and support to help her feel at home. After spending some time with Darcy, a friend told us how lucky we are to have gotten a dog like her, and we couldn’t agree more!

Bring home your best friend.
