• Volunteering with Pets

    Animal Care Volunteers
    Animal Care Volunteers are trained to work with our color-coded animals and donate time to their care at least once a week for a two hour shift by providing enrichment, socialization, brushing, walking, cleaning, exercise, and laundry for dogs and/or cats that are awaiting adoption.

    Location: Manhattan, Wantagh & Westhampton

    Requirements: Must be able to follow direction of the Adoption Centers at Bideawee staff. Must be 18 years of age or older, or must be accompanied by parent or guardian if between the ages of 10-17.
     

    Pet Therapy Teams
    Pet Therapy teams visit local facilities and provide happiness and support to those in nursing homes, hospitals, schools, libraries and more. These interactions often result in the improved physical health and mental well-being of those visited.

    Location: Manhattan, Wantagh & Westhampton

    Requirements: Pet Therapy teams must have the commitment, compassion and ability to work with all different types of populations. One must own a pet to be a Pet Therapy Team, complete our five week training program, and pass our evaluation before being registered to practice. Must be 16 years of age or older and be willing to submit and additional application and screening, including a background check (individuals aged 10-15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 21).
     

  • Volunteering Events

    Events Volunteers
    Events Volunteers are Bideawee Ambassadors that staff our off-site Mobile Adoption Events by handling our adoptable animals to promote their adoption, as well as Bideawee’s many services across New York City and Long Island.

    Location: Manhattan, Wantagh & Westhampton

    Requirements: Volunteers must be comfortable engaging the public at events, have the ability to stand or be outside for long periods of time and be willing to handle pets at events. The willingness to enthusiastically engage in one on one dialogue with other pet lovers is essential. Must be 18 years of age or older, or must be accompanied by parent or guardian if between the ages of 10-17.

  • Volunteering Across Our Business Lines

    Call Center Volunteers
    Call Center Volunteers are trained to answer Bideawee’s phone calls, answer caller questions and transfer to appropriate extensions. This position is in high demand, as it very directly helps our animals in an important way.

    Location: Manhattan, Wantagh & Westhampton

    Requirements: Customer service experience preferred. Must be comfortable speaking on the phone and answering questions and concerns of the public. Must have an extended knowledge of Bideawee and services. Must be 18 years of age or older.


    Reception Volunteers

    Reception Volunteer are trained to be able to perform reception duties at our front desk, greet and receive Bideawee visitors, and work directly with staff to assist clientele.

    Manhattan & Westhampton

    Requirements: Volunteers must feel comfortable greeting and engaging clientele, enthusiastically engage in one on one dialogue with other pet lovers, and work alongside staff. Must have an extended knowledge of Bideawee and services. Must be 18 years of age or older.


    Walk-Through Volunteers
    Walk-Through Volunteers are trained to give potential adopters tours of our animal areas and perform interactions.

    Location: Manhattan & Westhampton

    Requirements:
    Volunteers must feel comfortable engaging and greeting patrons. Must possess good judgment and understanding of our animals and facility. Must be 18 years of age or older.


    Animal Hospital Volunteers

    Animal Hospital Volunteers support our staff and help our two and four-legged clients have a warm and welcoming experience.

    Location: Manhattan & Westhampton

    Requirements: Volunteers must have good customer service skills and be comfortable speaking with the public. Volunteers must be comfortable assisting with cleaning tasks such as laundry, sweeping, dusting, and disinfecting exam rooms between appointments. It is essential that those who wish to volunteer at the Animal Hospital are comfortable with the medical side of animal welfare and will remain calm upon seeing sick animals or surgery taking place. Must be 18 years of age or older for this volunteer position.


    Pet Memorial Park Volunteers
    Pet Memorial Park Volunteers can help with outdoor activities such as raking, gardening, etc., or maintenance and repair (experience required for latter).

    Wantagh & Westhampton

    Requirements:
    Working in park requires working outdoors. Must have the ability to stand or be outside for long periods of time, bend over, lift objects, etc. Must be 18 years of age or older, or must be accompanied by parent or guardian if between the ages of 10-17.


    Administrative Volunteers
    There are many different areas in which a volunteer can become involved in an administrative aspect: event planning, finance, data entry, research, etc.

    Location: Manhattan, Wantagh & Westhampton

    Requirements: Possessing computer skills is preferred. Must be 18 years of age or older, or must be accompanied by parent or guardian if between the ages of 10-17.


    Volunteer Manager Assistants
    Volunteer Manager Assistants directly help their Volunteer Manager with major administrative initiatives. This is a leadership opportunity for those looking to gain experience in animal welfare management.

    Location: Manhattan, Wantagh & Westhampton

    Requirements: Ability to use a computer and understand/learn computer programming, such as Microsoft Office. Comfort in making phone calls and speaking directly with corporate and volunteer contacts. Must be 18 years of age or older.


    Accounting Volunteers
    Accounting Volunteers work directly with our accounting department to work on special projects for the organization.

    Location: Wantagh

    Requirements: Accounting experience/knowledge required.
